Microsoft Purview Activity Logging

As a Power Platform Administrator, my job is to manage and secure the organization’s Power Pages applications, ensure everything runs smoothly, is secure, functional, and compliant with company policies. Before Microsoft recently introduced the activity logging feature in Microsoft Purview, tracking changes and fixing unexpected issues was a real struggle. In the past, there was an incident where a critical Power Pages site was deleted unexpectedly, and because we did not have any logs, finding out who made the change or when it happened was impossible. We also faced problems with security settings being changed without proper documentation, we were wondering if the changes were accidental or unauthorized. This created delays and left the system vulnerable.
However, once we found the new activity logging feature. Now, we can track every administrative action in detail—whether it’s a change to site visibility, security settings, or integrations like Power BI and SharePoint. For example, when one of our sites was unexpectedly set to “private”, making it inaccessible to users, I was able to quickly check the activity log. It showed exactly when the change occurred, who made it, and what device they used.
This new feature has made troubleshooting much easier, saving our time and reducing the impact of errors. It also improves our security and compliance efforts by keeping a clear, transparent record of all-important changes with all the details.
Let’s see how it works-
